Many people I speak to currently believe that this time we are in in the history of humans in Universe is the darkest of all times. There is great despair. For many, a sense of hopelessness. And indeed there is much to despair about. The confluence of events of the economy, the environment, our energy supply, plus the issues that do not seem to get onto the table as much, like our entitled, winging, spoilt brat Western world, over indulged, lazy, self centred and deeply narcissistic.

On top of this, many people I know are going through their own personal dark night. Whether triggered by illness, depression, the environment around them, loss of work, identity, career...trying to find a way forward when the way looks lost or hopeless for whatever reason....To read more...


Your Unique Song Inside

So many times I am heart broken to see people with a song inside unsung!

Just imagine if Luciano Pavarotti decided in his early career to stop singing? Not only does he deny the world of great beauty, hope, joy, love, rapture, we denies himself of the song in his own heart. What a tragedy this would be for everyone.

I believe we all have our own song to sing. Our life experience, our gifts, our unique way of seeing the world, all lead us to a song that we have to sing that adds value to others. When we do not sing our song inside, we are no less than a Luciano who has decided not to sing. The result is tragic. Our soul withers for lack of the beauty we have to share..in whatever form that is...whether it is being brilliant at bookkeeping, or making scones, or sweeping streets, or creating iPods...To read more...

Leadership Alchemy

...We need to add to this mix of the usual suspects the fringe dwellers and positive deviants. The musicians, artists, performers, athletes, children, elders. We need to shake things up. It is the wonderful principle of alchemy, in our case, leadership alchemy. To bake a cake you take some ingredients that on their own taste horrible...raw eggs, butter, flour, baking powder, cocoa, salt! But put them together in the right amounts, with the right environment, and the right temperature, and you get a delicious creation that leaves people begging for more. It really is quite magical.

What is required is a form of leadership alchemy. This new science of taking a diverse groups of leaders, both recognised and acknowledged leaders and lesser or unrecognised leaders from the arts, education, sports, emerging businesses; and through a combination of mixing them up, spicing then with some dialogical processes, the right environment, the right questions, plus some deep contemplation and mythical/magical/mystical experiences, plus a bit of heat and stress through provocation; to create a new order of thinking and leadership that will be able to create the bridge from here and now, to a future that considers the whole first, for the care and support of the whole of humanity and our environment. Little Atrocities

Examples of micro violations and little atrocites may include:

*not speaking up when you know a choice is being made that is wrong. You may not speak up because you fear the repercussions, or because you are shy, or because you don’t want to be outside of the tribe. No matter, your silence makes you a contributor.

*agreeing to an activity that you know is wrong. This activity may be very very small, so you brush it off as inconsequential.

*staying silent and/or present to a conversation that is toxic or damaging to another person. Gossip is an example of this.

*staying silent to a conversation that is damaging to an organisation or group.

*choosing to not know about things---like what happens to the stuff we throw away, or how does the money system work, or that our partner is having an affair, or our child is taking drugs. We prefer to stay ignorant because we can sense that knowing has a price and a responsibility and we do not want to pay.

Our silence and refusal to listen to truth is the very first micro step (little atrocity) towards an accumulation of micro steps that end up as major violation of integrity. This is how a little atrocity becomes a major atrocity. To read more...
