The last few weeks have been a blur of rich dialogue, an exploration of deeper levels of communication and the joy of living in the simplicity of creative integrity.

My writing process is freeform. I write what is present in my life, what I am working on with my amazing clients, the patterns I see. In reading the last four articles you will also be reading where I have been at in my world, and the world I share with others. As I get wiser I cherish all of the moments, the rough and smooth. And the more constant personal experience I have is of deep gratitude no matter what.

The biggest challenge has been to support my daughter to find her next step. At 18 she is going through the common anguish of uncertainty about what to do with her life. Natalie is a visual synthesizer, so I was very grateful for the movie, "Julie and Julia" to give her a pathway of understanding. Sometimes we have to kiss a lot of frogs, and keep going back out the door to try the next thing..before our vocation, which was often right in front of our nose, reveals itself.

I was 23 years old when I first visited the USA. I spent four months there, traveling through about 40 states. Since that time I have been back over 45 times.

Today I read a wonderful piece in the Huffington Post by the very insightful Caroline Myss. I have not been paying too much attention to US politics since Obama’s election.

After my first trip to the US my impression was that the rest of the world was going to get to watch the modern day equivalent of the fall of the Roman Empire. Breakdown USA. Why did I think that back then, so many years ago and at so young an age? To read the full article...

Living in Creative Integrity

The future will require creative integrity from those of us who aspire to move ever more towards comprehensive consideration of the natural design of Universe.

We are in between worlds. The death of the old and the birth if the new. In this place of great change and upheaval, there also exists the crucible of creativity. Positive Deviants know this is occurring. They can feel it. They are perfectly primed to handle the cross currents, and to hold their nerve during the maelstrom. They know they must access their own creative integrity in ways they have not accessed before.

Clean Intentional Communication- Giving and Receiving Feedback

Imagine this situation...

You have a friend, family member, colleague who’s behaviour is causing a reaction in you. You may be annoyed, angry, upset, anxious, concerned, offended, cautious, disappointed, disapproving, disgusted, hurt, shocked, sad...

The first thing to note is that you have a “reaction”. Any reaction must be noted, no matter how slight. A reaction has a charge to it. You are no longer neutral. You have been plugged in. Clean intentional communication no longer exists for you. This immediately brings the situation into your personal domain. Some part of their behaviour is causing you upset. The operative word is “You”. Your reaction is about you, not about them and what they have done. Delivering feedback while you are in a reactionary mode is ill advised. To read more...

Listen For- What we focus on in our listening

What we listen for matters. Listening is a very complex art form that takes at least several life times to master. It is also very different for all people, based on their life experience and world view. In an earlier article I have written about listening till you no longer exist. Being in a place of listening that transcends the “I”. Listening till I no longer exist is a portal to really being able to hear the other for the other. However, even within the frame of listening till I no longer exist, we all have different listening for’s.
