Dear Readers -
I just returned from a weekend of teaching my intuition seminar at a beautiful island preserve and cottage colony in Palm Key, South Carolina, hosted by the HopeSpring Center. It was pure pleasure hanging out and having animated discussions about how that amazing inner resource, intuition, helps us to live a life we love.

4. DIVINE DECISIONS

Most of us hate making big decisions. Should I leave this job? Would my life be better if I moved to another place? Is it time to end this relationship? We usually angst about these issues for weeks, months and even years. I've observed that, left to their own devices, most people decide not to decide. They let "fate" take its course. What this actually means is, they don't make an active choice about what they want so much as they let circumstances choose for them.
No one aspires to feeling upset, down, depressed or out-of-balance. You've probably read many of the same books and attended the same seminars that I have. We're striving for a life of balance and peace. Right?! My answer - yes and no. When your life feels out of kilter it's simply a message from your Higher Self that it's time to make a change.
My client Judy told me she hated her job in pharmaceutical sales. She was desperate to get out of it. She was hoping and praying for some direction about her "life purpose." She had a strong desire to find a sales position at a resort or an elegant restaurant. She wished that new work would appear so she could leave her current position. Meanwhile, she felt she was doing a terrible job and her boss would inevitably let her go. "Why aren't my prayers being answered?" she asked.
Judy and I talked for quite awhile about what she expected when she prayed. The essence of her belief was that if she prayed "correctly" God would deem her worthy of a new job and someone would call and offer it to her. Does it happen that way in reality? Occasionally. More often though, we receive the answer through a shift in perception about a situation, a boost of courage or opportunities that show up in our lives.
As Judy and I talked further she recalled that a neighbor who was in the restaurant business had stopped by several months ago. She mentioned her interest in sales and he later handed her a list of people who could help her. When I asked her why she hadn't been in touch with any of his referrals, she said, "What if I decide to change my job and I don't like the new one?"
The answered prayer may be clear to you, but it wasn't to Judy. How many of us have been given an intuitive nudge to take a risk, make a decision, take some action, but we simply refused to budge out of fear and indecision? When you ask for guidance, you receive an answer. It doesn't always come in an obvious form. John D. Rockefeller, III, said, "The road to happiness lies in two simple principles: find what it is that interests you and that you can do well, and when you find it, put your whole soul into it -- every bit of energy and ambition and natural ability you have." Courage is needed in order to shed a safe and predictable life. Learn to embrace the new, remain open to answers and move forward with an open heart.
INTUITION EXERCISE:
Describe something you're unhappy about:
If you could be granted any wish, what would you like to happen regarding this situation?
Describe five options you have relative to this issue: (Examples: Youcould choose to talk to someone, to leave, to stay, to ask for help or support, to pray, to not decide, to take a risk, to shift your attitude, to continue doing what you've always done, to take action or all of the above.)
Close your eyes, take a deep breath. Ask your intuition the question, "What is the best course of action to take?" Pause. Think about all the options you've just written. Does any one leap out as the best decision? If not, go deeper and ask the question again. A new answer may emerge.
Write about your results.
What three small action steps can you take that will move you in the direction you chose?
