Dear Friends -
I had one of those synchronistic and intuitive moments last month. I was at a National Speakers Conference in Atlanta. It's an annual meeting and serves as a major networking event for me. I was trying to figure out whom I should meet and what sessions I should attend that would be most advantageous. I had been there for only a few hours and was feeling overwhelmed.
Just before dinner on the first day, I went back to my hotel room, exhausted from all the effort I was putting out. I said a prayer. "Okay God. You're in charge here. Show me who I'm supposed to meet. I'm just going to stay open, enjoy myself and be present. Amen."
I walked out of my room and onto the elevator where I overheard a man telling his friend about a wonderful seminar he had attended the prior week. I realized he was speaking about a program that John, my book agent had been at. I asked if he had met him. The man turned around. He looked at my nametag and flipped open his notebook. There, in large letters, was my name with a big asterisk next to it.
I stared at him with a puzzled look on my face. He said, "I'm supposed to meet you!" It turned out that John had suggested he find me at the conference to discuss our mutual book marketing efforts. It served as a wonderful reminder about how easy it can be when I work with the Universe and don't try so hard! ;-)

6. MOVING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*
I remember the exact moment I thought about risk-taking for the first time in my life. I was ten years old, playing in my back yard by myself when I received what I can only describe as a bolt of Divine guidance. It came out of the blue. It was a thought that stopped me in my tracks. One minute I was playing and the next moment I just knew that my life had been transformed. An inner voice said, "You have a choice about whether you play it safe in your life. If you choose to take risks, to confront and walk through your fears, you will be able to achieve all that you dream."
Pretty heavy stuff for a ten year old! But I knew exactly what the voice meant. I knew that I had an option to live life small and safe but I also knew that if I chose the path of living life large I would have all the help, guidance and direction I needed to succeed. You can make the same decision. You have a unique purpose you have come here to accomplish. You don't have to take huge risks. You don't have to find the cure for AIDS or found a new religion. But to live a fuller, more passionate life, you must learn to trust your intuition to be your friend and guide.
If I had waited until I was totally confident before I left my job to begin an intuitive consulting business, it wouldn't have happened. If I had waited until I was 100% sure I could write a book before I signed the contract, I wouldn't have done it. Taking a risk is about knowing you have to move out of your comfort zone and become a bigger person. Former President Teddy Roosevelt said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."
I grew up during the 1960s. There was a huge revolution to bring about peace on earth. We may still need a revolution, but not necessarily the outer kind. It's the inner kind. You are here to create peace within yourself and allow those waves of calm, love, forgiveness and kindness to flow out into the world. The Universe may be a huge place, but there are no small actions and no small thoughts. Everything is interconnected; everything matters. You can be the change you want to see in the world.
The Universe gives you those dreams in order for you to become the best person you can be. You deserve to take that risk. Is it scary? YES! The first three months after I started my business I would sit in my office and cry before my clients came in. I was sure that someone would discover I was a total fake! When I was asked to give my first speech, I had a muscle spasm in my back for two solid weeks before the event.
Do I still feel scared? Yes. The only difference now is that I totally know that the Universe is there to guide me. It doesn't put anything in my path that I can't handle. I make a conscious choice to feel calm. I simply affirm, "I can do this. I am supported. I'll know what I need to do when I need to do it." Knowing that allows me to accept change with more grace and without the extremes of anxiety that I once experienced. I know that events may not unfold exactly as I want. But whatever happens, I'll be fine either way.
Don't fall into the trap of imagining that everything has to be perfect. It never will be. Your task is to figure out what you want. Then allow the Universe to begin bringing together the resources necessary for you to have your dream. Then it's time for you to take a leap of faith and go for your dream. Don't imagine for a moment that the heroes or heroines you look up to haven't gone through this same process. They have! They've all been scared as they looked out over the chasm they needed to leap across.
Marianne Williamson put this so succinctly when she said, " Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Who are we not to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in us all."
In order to create a life you love, you need to take risks. I'm not talking about leaping-off-a-cliff-with-a-bungee-cord-attached type of risk, or marching into your boss's office and saying "I quit." (Unless you feel strongly guided to do so!) I'm speaking about the small risks that will move you out of your comfort zone. It might be calling someone you feel intimidated by, increasing the fees for a service you provide or agreeing to chair a project for your kid's school.
Everyone has a different set of circumstances that make up their comfort zone. When you choose to move out of the perceived safety of the known and into the unknown, miracles will begin to occur. With each risk you take, you'll start to feel more and more comfortable. You'll find that the Universe will start to deliver your dreams to you more quickly. Your self confidence and self esteem will improve and you'll begin to feel powerful. Your vision of yourself and what you can achieve in the world will begin to expand. As you become bigger, you'll find you can hold a vision of what you want to achieve, and before you know it, success will be yours. You already have more power than you can imagine! Begin to own it. It will provide you with enormous energy to create your dreams.

However, the many people, animals and businesses affected should not fade from our hearts and minds. http://www.networkforgood.org/ is a wonderful resource that has done a great job at vetting the many social service organizations in the area of the Gulf Coast. They make it easy to make a contribution that will be used wisely and help those who need it the most.
The authors of "Attracting Perfect Customers" are the hosts of the site http://www.perfectcustomers.com. Their tag line is "transforming your business into a powerful magnet to attract more perfect customers and employees." They have a terrific daily newsletter that often features brief articles on intuition and the law of attraction.
