Dear Friends -
It often occurs to me that pushing out of one's comfort zone is crucial to success. This past month has been filled with those uncomfortable occasions - going to a party where I only knew one person, traveling to Denver to talk to people for a possible business venture as well as exploring a potential partnership with a new publisher.
Yet, each time I stretch myself to say "yes" to the unknown and unexplored, I feel richer and expanded. The world is full of more possibilities. Do I still feel scared, uncertain and insecure? Absolutely! What I've discovered is that those feelings don't need to stop me. They're simply an experience I go through on the path to a richer life.
Later this month, I hope to have some news for you about my next book project as well as an additional newsletter. I'm excited about them. I hope you will be too!

6. LIVING A PASSIONATE LIFE

I've always envied those people who knew exactly what they wanted to be when they grew up. There were kids in my high school class who knew they were destined to have careers as veterinarians, accountants, nurses or lawyers. I think those folks are rare. Most of us struggle with this question throughout our lives. We try to come up with a specific occupation that will satisfy all our needs at all stages of our life.
But what's not so rare, is knowing what we're drawn to. It's almost as if there were a blueprint somewhere deep in our souls that lays out the best plan for our unfolding. It might be an interest that causes us to read any and all books on a certain topic. It could be a hobby we do in our spare time. Our calling might present itself as an issue we feel passionately about. As surprising as it may seem, most of us have a pretty good sense of our passion when we're children. We've just forgotten it and gone ahead and done things that are practical, logical and rational with our lives. It's as if, like the Bender quote above states, "We've left our hearts at home."
I've often joked that I wish we were born with a little instruction guide that, if followed, would lead to a successful life. It took me many years to understand that, in fact, intuition was the guide I was seeking. And instead of "written" instructions, God was providing me with wise directions by way of a still, quiet inner voice.
God has a plan for your life. That plan is rarely shown to you all at once. It takes patience, trust and faith to allow the often-miraculous details to unfold. It's not unlike putting a giant jigsaw puzzle together. You may have fragments that are clear, but until the final pieces are put into place you can't see the larger picture.
It's time to put the pieces together. You were born with natural talents, skills and interests. Your life has been about discovering them and using them for a larger purpose to enrich, inspire and help others. There is a saying from Buddha, "Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it." That said, how can you discover your work?
Following are some questions to get you started. You might want to grab your journal and carve out a few hours over the next several weeks or months to really tune into your intuition and allow it to guide you. There are no wrong answers. Some of the questions will call to you more than others. Respond to those first. Like the puzzle analogy above, don't try to figure out the larger picture for now. It will become clear as you use these questions as a starting point. As you write, pay attention to any messages of "quiet excitement," peace, calm or confidence. These are ways that your intuition has of communicating something of importance.
+ What did I love to do as a child?
+ What do I like to read about or study in my free time?
+ At the end of my life what will I be most proud of having accomplished?
+ What am I doing when times seems to be flying by?
+ What would I be doing if I didn't have to work for money?
+ What quality do I possess that people most often comment on?
+ What skill(s) do I possess that people most often comment on?
+ What wrong would I most like to right in the world?
+ What would I do if I knew I'd succeed?
+ If I had the perfect job or career, what would an ideal day, week and month look like?
+ When I tune in to my inner guidance what does it tell me I should do?
+ How could I make a living doing what I love?
+ What was I doing the last time I had fun?
+ What's missing in my life and what could I do to supply the missing piece?
The Universe is a great teacher. People who have a sense of purpose and who follow their passion are rewarded with joy and energy and are fueled by inspiration. It's as if they are dancing with life and the Universe rewards the dancers with abundance in all forms. It's time to put on your dancing shoes, have fun and kick up your heels! Dancing lessons anyone?
