About the Special Committee on LSDBEs:

Councilmember Brown was appointed chair of the Special Committee on a Comprehensive Policy for Local, Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (LSDBEs) on March 15, 2005 to review and oversee the strategy, focus and implementation of a unified local business development plan for the District and develop a set of policy recommendations maximize the effectiveness of current programs administered by the District of Columbia’s independent agencies and corporations aimed at aiding local small and disadvantaged businesses.

ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC OVERSIGHT HEARING
ON
“Obstacles Confronting the District’s Local Small and Disadvantaged Businesses”

On Monday, October 24, 2005 at 10:00 am in hearing room 412, of The John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Councilmember Kwame R. Brown, Chair of the Special Committee on a Comprehensive Policy For Local, Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, will hold a public oversight hearing on the obstacles confronting the District’s Local, Small, and Disadvantaged Businesses.

The purpose of this public oversight hearing is to receive testimony from the LSDBE community in regards to obstacles they have encountered while trying to acquire LSDBE certification, attain contracts, access capital, and otherwise participate in the District’s LSDBE program.

The Special Committee extends an invitation to the public to testify at the hearing. Persons who wish to testify are asked to contact Aaron Nelson, Special Assistant for the Special Committee on a Comprehensive Policy for Local, Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, at (202) 724-5355 and furnish their name, telephone number and organizational affiliation by noon, Friday, October 21, 2005. You may also forward your information via fax to (202) 724-8156 or email to anelson@dccouncil.us. Written statements to be presented at the public oversight hearing should be transmitted no later than two days prior to the public oversight hearing. Witnesses should also bring 20 copies of their testimony to the public oversight hearing. Individuals will be limited to three (3) minutes and panels will be limited to five minutes for oral presentation. The press should contact LaToya Foye, Communications Director at (202) 724-8174.

If you are unable to testify, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Copies of written statements should be submitted to Ms. Phyllis Jones, Secretary to the Council, Suite 5, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W., Washington, DC 20004. The record will officially close on Thursday, October 27, 2005.
