DCPS Beautification Day: Saturday, August 25, 2007
8:00am to 1:00pm

The annual DCPS Beautification Day, established in 2005 as the official day for a citywide “spruce up” of all DC public school buildings and front grounds in preparation for school opening, will be held this year on Saturday, August 25, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This activity, in past years, has been a joint venture of DCPS, parent leaders and community organizations.

Beautification efforts will include landscaping, trash pick-up, light painting, planting flowers, and other external beautification efforts. Volunteers are needed at all sites.

Don't allow your children to miss the first day of school! All District of Columbia children are required to have up-to-date shots before the start of school on August 27.

For uninsured and underinsured District of Columbia residents, please contact one of the Express Immunization Clinics below. Proof of residency required. Bring one of the following: driver's license, non-driver ID, current utility bill (not a phone bill), lease and letter from D.C. school stating student needs immunizations, current pay stub showing D.C. tax withholding, documentation showing current receipt of financial assistance from D.C. such as TANF, Medicaid, housing assistance. Brown Kicks Off Walking Tours of D.C.'s Main Streets in Mount Pleasant & Adams Morgan Neighborhoods

On Wednesday, August 15, Councilmember Brown kicked off his walking tour of the District’s nine Main Streets with local business owners, ANC Commissioners and neighbors of Mount Pleasant. The tour began at 10:00am between Mount Pleasant & Park Road, NW. Brown visited area restaurants, furniture stores and apparel retailers to discuss their efforts to provide greater services to their communities.

Following the Adams Morgan Main Street tour held on Thursday, Brown met with bar and restaurant owners to address their challenges to provide affordable dining options to patrons and pay rising property taxes. This week, Councilmember Brown will continue his tour, visiting Barracks Row Main Streets on Thursday, August 23. Dates and times are subject to change.
