"Time to Shine...April is Student Testing Time!" Brown Gives Pep Talk to Davis Elementary Students
With just two school days remaining before the "big-test" Councilmember Brown visited 10 classrooms to give a pep talk to students preparing for the annual assessment test.
Each April, DCPS students in grades 3-8 and 10 take the District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System (DC-CAS). The DC-CAS is the "big-test" that measures students' knowledge and skills in math, reading, science and writing. The DC-CAS helps guide instruction by identifying the areas in which students need additional support and challenges. It is also critical in determining DCPS' compliance with No Child Left Behind. The academic performance of our students is far below what it needs to be. In addition, a number of our older students fail to show up to take the test. This year's mantra is "Time to Shine...April is Student Testing Time!" In following Chancellor Rhee's efforts to help our students achieve at the highest levels, Councilmember Brown visited Davis Elementary to provide students with a large dose of encouragement as they prepared during the final days before the DC-CAS. Brown promised to reward all students he visited with a special celebration to recognize their efforts.
