LISTENING LEADER LAZER LESSONS

READ TO ME, I’LL LISTEN

The Live Oaks Public Library in Savannah, GA has a new program to help children to read out loud. They have recruited volunteers to be listen to the apprehensive young readers.

The unique part of the program is that the listeners are dogs. Known as therapy dogs, they are alway’s people’s personal pet companions and they always volunteer together, at no cost to the facility.

The qualities necessary to listen are that the dog must be obedient, responsive, reliable, predictable, and who love people, beyond their own family pack. The child totally forgets the handler is there and is only interested in reading to the dog.
