DRIVER LISTENING TO RADIO CRASHES INTO SEMI

KENNEWICK, Wash. 10-5-08 --A man listening to a college football game on the radio ends up crashing into a semi-truck.

Kennewick police officers say a 60-year-old man was trying to make a left turn when he didn't yield to an oncoming semi traveling eastbound.

The man admitted he was distracted by the football game.

"With radios' and iPods and stereos we always want to make sure that drivers are paying attention to what they're doing," says Kennewick police officer Isaac Merkl. When they're in the car, their primary job is to make sure they are safely operating that vehicle."

The driver of the pick-up truck was given a ticket for failing to yield.

Officer Isaac Merkl adds drivers need to pay close attention to police during a crash for the public's safety.
