LISTENING LEADER LAZER LESSONS

HOW TO GIVE YOUR BRAIN A MASSAGE

A former Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Paul J Keating, would often return to his official residence after a stressful day in the Parliament and relax by listening to music. He would use headphones and spend time LISTENING to the music rather than just HEARING it. The "music appreciation area" of the brain is located in the right hemisphere. If this important area of the brain is damaged as a result of injury or stroke then people can listen to music but it means nothing to them. Try to take some time this week to listen to music. Give your complete attention to the music and listen creatively so that you can enjoy it at many levels. Massage your brain with the rhythm of the music. If you play a musical instrument then you will know that it is virtually impossible to play music and think of other things at the same time. When Albert Einstein was struggling to solve a problem he would often take time out with his violin. This "musical diversion" would give his brain a break and he would frequently return with the answer or at least some new insights.
