Earlier, I
picked up a really good book at the library on productivity that I found
validating and inspiring. So, as a treat to myself, I bought a copy and
have been devouring it with the intention of creating some new organizing
systems to keep me focused and on track.
In reading
the book I realized that a lot of my challenges have nothing to do with a
brain injury and more to do with the fact that we live in the information
age and are having to create better systems to keep ourselves more organized
than we needed in the past.
Im looking
forward to seeing what changes I can make to better stay out of overwhelm
and to keep my focus in this New Year. What systems could you create this
year to keep yourself more organized?
Quote of the Week: "What
you are against weakens you. What you are for empowers you."
- Wayne Dyer
Question:
How could you shift something that you
are against into something that you are for? Notice the subtle (or maybe
not-so-subtle) shift in how you feel after doing so.
Affirmation:
"I gladly focus my thoughts and energy on the
things I want to expand. In doing so, I sense the power that lies within
me!"

"What a calming
influence it is to be with you. All the world gets straightened out again.
What a gift you have!"

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
(Paperback)
by David Allen
Getting Things Done offers a
complete system for downloading all those free-floating gotta-do's that clog
your brain. Allen has been dubbed "the personal productivity guru" by
Fast Company, suggests that instead of doing nothing while you wait for
a plane, you should unsheathe that high-tech saber known as the cell phone
and attack that list of calls you need to return.
Allen's whole-life-organizing systems are fun and
therapeutic. It starts with taking every unaccounted-for scrap of paper in
your workstation that you can't junk, The next step is to write down every
unaccounted-for gotta-do cramming your head onto its own scrap of paper.
Finally, throw the whole stew into a giant "in-basket."
Allen's ingenious Two-Minute Rule: if there's anything you
absolutely must do that you can do right now in two minutes or less, then do
it now, thus freeing up your time and mind tenfold over the long term. It's
commonsense advice so obvious that most of us completely overlook it, much
to our detriment; Allen excels at dispensing such wisdom in this useful
self-improver aimed at everyone from CEOs to soccer moms.
