I just love the New Year don't you? Not because I like writing up
New Year's resolutions (because I don't), but because the new year
represents a new and fresh start to everything. Come to think of
it, I enjoy the first of every month and the beginning of each and
every day for the same reason.
As a coach, you'd think that I'd be a big fan of resolutions (but
I'm not). If you're like most people, you get pumped up about your intentions
and by mid-February (sometimes sooner) you've forgotten all about
them, you've abandoned them completely and feel guilty about it
leaving you worse off than if you'd never made them.
The real power of New Year's resolutions lie in the potency of
living with intention. Living with intention means paying attention
to your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors and knowing that at every
given moment you have the ability to choose them consciously
(wisely) or unconsciously (perhaps, not so wisely). Tools like
meditation, prayer, journaling, and yoga can help you live more
consciously and with intent. The best reward of all is the sense of
purpose and fulfillment that comes with living a conscious life
because doing so requires you to slow down long enough to reflect on
your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.
Of course, having an outside partner in this process can also be a
big help. Perhaps that's where the magic of coaching can make the
most impact.
Obviously, I'm a bit biased on the importance of coaching having
been a coach for almost 12 years now. There's something immensely
powerful about having an objective partner who supports you in
living a full, rich, and empowered life. Having someone whose job
it is to love you unconditionally, lovingly telling you the truth
(when no one else will), believing in you (sometimes even more than
you believe in yourself), and being a creative sounding board for
you to bounce off your ideas and insights. Lastly, there's the
accountability part. I'm a pretty self-driven-kind-of-gal, but
knowing that someone else is lovingly holding me accountable to
fulfilling my tasks and intentions, works wonderfully for me.
Having a coach in your life is certainly not a necessity, but it is
an act of self care. Like most people, knowing what you need to do
and doing it, are two different things. Having a coach who you can
connect with weekly is the biggest gift you can give yourself.
If you are excited about your intentions for 2008, consider having
a coach. I invite you to give me a call and we can explore the
possibilities together. I presently have space for two (2) new clients. I'd love for you to be one of them.
Wishing you your best year ever!
