Do you have a hard time asking for help when
you need it? I know I do and will do just about anything to not
have to ask.
Maybe its pride, maybe its stubbornness, but
mostly its just habit. As they say, old habits die hard. Ive got
to say, Im looking forward to the day this habit dies, as it truly
is not one that serves me.
I have been known to tell my clients that by
asking for help and learning to receive, you give the gift of
giving to others. Most of us know how easily we can give of
ourselves to others, but learning to receive is a whole other
story. It involves a bit of vulnerability and a willingness to
open ones heart to another, which is not easy stuff for some of
us. It also involves an element of slowing down and letting
something in. Mostly, it involves a sense of stillness and trust.
Heres a list of what Ive learned about
asking for help:
1.
Asking
for help is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.
2. In doing so, you allow someone else to enjoy the gift of giving.
3. Asking for help allows others into your heart in new and unexpected
ways.
4. In asking for help you get to see that the very person expecting you
to be perfect is you!
5. Asking for help can allow for a heartfelt connection that blesses
both you and the person helping you.
6. Asking for help can be humbling and humiliating and freeing.
7.By asking for help you can see how very much you are loved and valued
by others and by Spirit.
8.By asking for help you can breathe a little more deeply and rest in a
knowingness that you really are fully supported by Spirit and by others.
9.By asking for help you can get over yourself and let others in (refer
to #6).
10. By asking for help, and being open to receiving it, you might be
amazed at the abundance of gifts the universe has in store for you.
For some of us, it takes a lot of courage to
ask for help. I challenge you to muster up some braveness (send
some love to those parts of you that are scared) and ask for something
at least three times this week that you want or need. Nine times out
of ten you'll get it and even if you dont, youll see that the
power is in the asking and that alone is a gift.

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to
Promote Peace - One School at a Time (Paperback) by Greg
Mortenson (Author), David Oliver Relin (Author)
In 1993, author Mortenson's failed
attempt to climb K2, the world's second tallest mountain became his
catalyst for writing this book. After becoming dangerously ill, he was
sheltered for seven weeks by the small Pakistani village of Korphe. In
return, he promised to build the impoverished town's first school. The
book is full of fascinating detail, and compelling characters Mortenson
found in the village elders, con artists, philanthropists, mujahideen,
Taliban officials, ambitious school girls, and upright Muslims. The book
will win many reader's hearts with its captivating and suspenseful
accounts of both hostilities and unlikely friendships.
