“By asking and processing value-finding questions, we
train our intuitive mind to be increasingly efficient in its ability
to crystallize new insights.” ~ Kurt Wright

What's the best thing that happened to you today?

When I work with clients, I make connections between the invisible – their thoughts, feelings and attitudes – and the visible – the tangible results they experience in their lives. People often tell me that they are working too hard and feel tired, if not exhausted. A great deal of our tiredness can come from our inner dialogue and the kinds of questions we ask ourselves.

Kurt Wright, the author of “Breaking the Rules,” taught me a great energy building question: “What’s the best thing that happened to you today?” By asking this question regularly, we train our minds to find value. This value-finding question taps into the intuitive part of our mind that processes faster than our analytical mind can.

In the beginning, I’d catch myself focusing on what was wrong. Little by slowly, I’ve trained my mind to ask new questions. I’ve been using this particular question for many months now and I’m amazed that I now find it a challenge to select just one “best thing!” My mind is now focused on finding the value in every situation. I make a note of these best things in a journal to keep me focused on the good in my everyday life.

Last month, one of the best things that happened to me was a story from one of my clients. I had challenged him to begin asking the question of his children each day when he came home from work. He taught his two daughters the question. The next day, as they kissed and hugged him before he left the house, he told them that their kisses were the best thing that happened to him that day. Isn’t that a great self-esteem booster for his little girls?

Well, several days later, as he was leaving the house, one of his daughters came running over and said: “Daddy, I want to give you the best thing that’s going to happen to you today!” She had already begun to associate their hugs and kisses with great value and importance!

Coach’s request: Ask your loved ones tonight, “What’s the best thing that happened to you today?” You’re sure to learn something new about them and it can spark some amazing new connections. These connections are made inside their own minds between their head and heart and between you and them. If you’re up to a life-changing challenge, start writing down the answer to this powerful question every evening and watch your energy level soar!

I’d love to hear your experience of this question. Just e-mail me at smm@questcoaching.com with the SUBJECT: BEST THING in the header.
