I
recently read how conflicting beliefs can tie up our energy. I have a
project that has been difficult to bring to completion, so I started asking
myself what my beliefs were that made it so that it was difficult for
me to complete the project. A variety of beliefs showed themselves. One,
for example, was:
"When
I finish this, people will yell at me because I forgot something."
My
current favorite way to do TAT is this:
First,
I make a dedication that I am doing this healing on behalf of myself,
my family and all beings. Then I do the Steps.
Step
One: Everything that led up to this belief happened.
Step Two: Everything that led up to this belief happened, it's over, I
can relax now and it's no longer resulting in this belief.
Step Three: I forgive everyone who injured me related to this and I wish
them love, happiness and peace.
Step Four: I apologize to everyone I hurt related to this and I wish them
love, happiness and peace.
Step Five: All the places in my mind, body and life where this has been
stored are healing now.
(or: God, thank You for healing all the places in my mind, body and life
where this has been stored.)
Step Six: I choose (whatever positive thought/belief I want to which is
related to the original negative belief).
Step Seven: I give thanks for this healing.
My
Step Six included a few related to the negative belief I mentioned above:
"If
people yell at me, I am OK anyway."
"It's possible I didn't leave anything out."
"If I left something out and someone tells me, I can always add it
in."
As
always, it's very simple to write. Doing it is amazing. The effects are
so great. You can use the above structure for dealing with allergies,
negative beliefs, illness, pain and for trauma. Just modify Step One and
Two by leaving out the word "belief" and changing it to "this"
and it will work for anything.
Just
as a reminder, while this approach is great for healing, you also really
need in-depth training to be a skilled practitioner. Problems can arise
and you need to be educated and skilled at effective approaches to get
you and your clients through.
At
the October TAT Events, you can learn TAT in depth at a Workshop with
me. You will also learn from highly-skilled practitioners how they deal
with different types of clients and different types of problems. We will
have Pat Thatcher teaching basic counseling skills for those of us not
trained as psychotherapists. Mary Sise will be teaching how to work with
multiply-traumatized patients and how to recognize when you are in over
your head. These are all skills that all TAT practitioners who use TAT
professionally must have to be successful and to care for the safety of
their clients.
