Feeling strong emotions

Dear Friends,

For a few weeks now, I’ve been struggling with getting the last bits of work done to finalize the new videos, CDs and DVDs. I realized that I was feeling very nervous about completing this big project and knew the feeling didn't come just from what was happening in the present. Finally, this morning, the thought came that if I finished all the struggle of the work, I would be isolated. I did TAT about it and saw that the feeling came from my own birth, how once I was born and all that drama and struggle were over, I was instantly isolated from everyone. I wasn’t held and cuddled and loved for a while. Instead, I was put in a little bed all by myself in a room with a few other babies in their own little beds. All the nervousness cleared up with that one TAT session, and the work I had been avoiding completing was finished in 15 minutes. What an amazing difference.

And now I would like to share a story with you that was sent to me by a friend.

I have sung for over 20 years...at weddings, in churches, in singing groups, choirs, and have even recorded with a friend, BUT I also had fear through all those years when I sang. No one ever knew what was going on deep inside me, but I knew what was really there. I had simply learned to have confidence and hide it. Now I am at a place in my life where I don't want to live with any incongruence anymore. So, I did 2 TAT sessions with myself and the whole thing was reframed and God brought incredible healing to me. I ended up singing on Palm Sunday with a 100 voice choir behind me WITH NO FEAR!!! I am not kidding you. There was only confidence and the power of God flowing through me. People said they had never heard me sing like that before. Isn't that incredible?!

The bottom line is that I absolutely LOVE this way of working with people and find I use it more than anything else in my counseling practice. I love the depth, simplicity, and thoroughness of TAT.

Here's one other subject for you. Some people think that if you feel a strong emotion, you should give yourself a TAT treatment. I don't think so. I think if you are sad, you cry. If you are happy, you laugh. I don't think of feelings as something to be ended.

I think that it's useful to do TAT if you can't feel your feelings, or if you are stuck on and on with a feeling that has a negative belief fueling it. Then you do TAT about the negative belief, and the emotions that have flowed from that stuck point of view end along with the negative belief.

One doctor friend of mine told me that he often uses TAT with patients with the statements "It's not OK to feel my feelings" for Step 1 and "It's OK to feel my feelings" for Step 2. Just as an aside, this doctor works as a urologist at a large medical establishment. He finds that a lot of people have urinary-problems related to emotional trauma from sexual abuse. He has people do TAT and is getting good results with healing their presenting problems.

Wishing you love and happiness,

Tapas
