Is Your Sanctuary a Prison?Through the Spiritual Cinema Circle(tm), I watched a short film called Right Here, Right Now that was filmed in India. It was so interesting to see the streets, neighborhoods, markets and particularly the houses. In this neighborhood, the houses were small, plain, simple and what we Americans would consider fixer-uppers. And these people seemed happy with their homes. On another day, I watched a wonderful PBS special, The Wild Horses of Mongolia with Julia Roberts, where she spent time with a Mongolian family. These nomadic people live in a portable house and live off of the milk from their herd of horses and the meat from their sheep. Mongolia is bitterly cold, even when it's not winter, so the people join together and really support each other. Like the people in the India film, they seemed happy. Watching both of these pieces got me thinking about our American lifestyle and how much materialism is a part of our lives - especially our homes. So I wondered, when does our house serve us and when do we serve our house? Of course it is wonderful to have a sanctuary to come home to; beautiful surroundings that we enjoy with family and friends. However, we all know people (maybe ourselves) who are caught up in the acquisition game - accumulating more stuff, bigger houses, etc. So when does our sanctuary become a prison? I believe I have found the purpose for beautiful things, including a home. If a possession brings you joy or peace or a sense of beauty, then it is serving you. Having it amplifies and expands your energy - that is a good thing. If you walk around your home and find your Self immersed in the beauty, grateful to be there, then your house is serving you. However, if you have possessions that no longer do anything for you, generating a neutral or negative energy, then you are serving it. Having those items is actually restricting your energy. If your house constantly reminds you of lack or what needs to be done, it is draining your energy. Time for it to go. Using the test of whether an object amplifies your energy or not, is a great way to de-clutter your home; and also a great way to determine if you really want to buy something. So look around your house, take an inventory. How much of what you own is serving you? How much are you serving your possessions? Are you ready to let go of what is no longer serving you? (By the way, as you let go of the old, you are making room for new.) Like the Mongolian people, we're stronger when we support each other and band together. I'm here to support you in de-cluttering your life, stepping into your full potential and raising your consciousness. Contact me for a complimentary coaching session. Did You Enjoy WHALERIDER? I loved it, and felt grateful that so many people got to enjoy it. There are many films as beautiful as WHALERIDER made every year, but almost nobody gets to see them. Mongolia is home to the only true wild horses known to still exist. Julia Roberts, who shares a passion for horses with the Mongolian people, went there to sample life as a nomad on the steppes of central Asia and learn first hand why the wild horse has been an integral part of existence there for millennia.
