"Silence is the key to restoring a sense of balance and clarity to our lives. It replenishes our physical energy. It calms the nervous system. And, it gives us a chance to connect with what's really going on beneath the surface of our busy lives. From this deeper place we have the opportunity to stop and consider whether or not we're living the life we truly want to live." - Cheryl Richardson, www.cherylrichardson.com "When stopping is movement." Sound like a paradox? Recently I was coaching a woman who was feeling stuck. She wasn't clear on her next action step and felt that slowing down meant not making progress. Isn't it interesting how we often make the assumption that slowing down or stopping is not productive? If we're not doing something to further our goals, we must be stuck. Right? Maybe not. Consider this... What if stopping IS movement? Successful CEOs think so. A study of successful CEOs revealed that the activity seen as the most crucial to their success (and their companies' success) was their strategic visioning time. That's when these CEOs step back from their daily schedule, look at the big picture, and make course corrections, if needed. Are you needing to take a step back? If you're feeling stuck or you're not sure where to go next, maybe it's a sign that it's time to STOP - a time to reconnect with your Self, your vision, and your Soul's desires. Are you willing to give yourself permission to STOP? The woman I coached gave herself permission to STOP and to see stopping as a form of movement. The irony is that in doing so, a number of new opportunities showed up. Coincidence? I think not. While your Spirit is not limited by space and time, your body is. Such is the nature of our reality. Sometimes stopping your physical activity creates the space to hear your Soul's whispers or at least to bring your body and Spirit in sync. Action Steps:
1) Acknowledge times when you have slowed down or stopped and recall your experience both before and after. How did you feel and think before? How did you feel and think after? 2) If you're feeling stuck, confused, unmotivated or off-track, give your Self permission to STOP. Go ahead. Do it now. (Click here to print a permission slip you can post around your house or office or go to: http://www.womensu.com/PermissionSlip.htm ) 3) Notice how you judge slowing/stopping. Does it seem unproductive, a waste of time, or lazy? Great! You've just brought awareness to a belief that's been hidden. Now you get to choose whether to keep it, toss it, or modify it to serve you.
